| We're Asking Ottawa... On average, how many Arson Fires are investigated by the Ottawa Police Arson unit each year? a) 75
b) 125
c) 225
d) 330 The Right Answer: The answer is C. The Arson Unit investigates about 200-250 Arson files each year in addition to reviewing about 250 more fires classified either as Undetermined or Non Arson (Accidental). |
The Ottawa Police Arson Section is a unique section in that it works off-site, in partnership with its primary partner, the Ottawa Fire Service.
Once the Fire Investigators determine that the cause of the fire was Incendiary(Arson) the investigation becomes the
responsibility of the Ottawa Police Arson unit. Depending on the scope of the investigation the Arson Unit will work in conjunction with both investigators from the Fire Service as well as the Office of the Fire Marshal, the provincial body responsible for fire investigation. The City of Ottawa is at the forefront in this field of criminal investigation.
