In February 2008, the Ottawa Police Service announced that 211 Huntmar Drive (formerly 2499 Palladium Drive) would be the future home of a new West Division Patrol Station. As of December 16, 2009, the station is open!

Our open house for 211 Huntmar Drive took place on February 20, 2010 from 10am-2pm.

At the open house, a time capsule was placed in the ground, to be opened in year 2040. What was in the time capsule, you ask? Kids from École Elementaire Publique Kanata submited their ideas and the following items were enclosed underground:

  • Map of Ottawa
  • Coins from 2010
  • Current Affairs Magazine
  • Copy of the Ottawa Citizen from February 19, 2010
  • Issue of the Ottawa Police Broadcast (internal newsletter)
  • List of personnel working from the new building
  • Picture of the land before/after the station was built
  • Senators team 2010 calendar
  • Music CD
  • Letters from kids about what they expected 2040 to be like
  • A picture by a grade 8 student of what she expects 2040 to look like
  • A current price list of 2009 items such as gas price, milk, bread, TV, fridge etc..
  • An aerial view of the West end of Ottawa
  • Police shirt/hat
  • Model police car
  • OPS teddybear
  • OPS pin
  • Photo and tribute of fallen officer, Cst. Eric Czapnik

About 211 Huntmar

This 5.6-acre location meets both the strategic and operational needs of the OPS, especially being located just off of the Queensway (417). A list of site selection criteria was developed and the Huntmar Drive location suited all of the following criteria:

Proximity and distance to "400" series highways (rapid deployment and ease of movement across the city 24/7)

  • Public transit friendly (staff and public)
  • Sufficient and separate parking for fleet and staff
  • Stand alone facility
  • Development ready
  • Acceptable zoning
  • Secure site

The OPS believes in investing in infrastructure and we want our Service to grow alongside the city of Ottawa.

Current population and anticipated growth indicate more rapid growth of population in the city's west end (Kanata and surrounding areas) as opposed to the south end (e.g. Barrhaven/Manotick). Calls for service are also higher in that part of the city.

With the Greenbank Rd. station at capacity, design criteria for the new facility was established based on a 20 year staffing forecast. The Abbeyhill Dr. station was closed and savings from that building are being diverted into the new facility.

Our new West Division Patrol Station is another example of our efforts to being a ‘greener’ service. The new building is expected to achieve LEED "Gold" certification. Find out more...
