Forage Cap, part of uniform for Lothian and Borders Police Service

Collection of Peter Dawson

This forage cap belongs to Constable Peter Dawson, a uniformed member with the Ottawa Police Service. This style of forage cap was put into service in 1992 and is still used today.

Cst. Dawson originally joined the Lothian and Borders Police Service in 1996, where he spent a good deal of his time patrolling the streets of Edinburgh. However, the Constable chose to immigrate to Canada in 2002 to join the Ottawa Police Service, and he has been a welcome addition to the officers who patrol the rural areas of Ottawa.

Written in Latin on the cap badge are the words 'Semper Vigilo', meaning 'Always Vigilant'. You will find this motto on the police caps of all eight police services in Scotland, of which Lothian and Borders Police Service is the second largest.
