Ottawa Police provide results of recent ‘Bait Bike’ project

(Ottawa)—During the month of July and August 2010, the Ottawa Police Service conducted a ‘Bait Bike’ project in the areas of the By-Ward Market, Sandy Hill, Vanier and Centertown.
During that time period, members of the Central District Unit deployed a “bait” bicycle in a public area and maintained surveillance.

As a result of this project, ten people have been arrested and charged with a variety of charges, the majority being Theft under $5000.

Area residents are asked to continue to ensure that their bicycles, as well as vehicles, are secured from any types of theft and to not leave valuables in plain view.
