Ottawa Police investigating suspicious packages at Carleton University

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday September 7, 2010 7:50 pm

(Ottawa)-The Ottawa Police Service has launched an investigation after two suspicious packages were received earlier this date on the Carleton University Campus.

At approximately 2 pm today, Emergency Services personnel responded to the Carleton Campus to investigate two packages that were received by mail at an office on campus. Carleton’s Campus Safety Officer responded initially but then turned the investigation over to the Ottawa Police when the packages were deemed to be suspicious. A building on campus was evacuated while an examination of the packages was completed by Ottawa Police and Fire Service personnel. Nothing untoward was found but the packages have been sent for additional examination by Health Canada. The Ottawa Fire Service’s Hazardous Materials Team was also on scene assisting in the investigation. EMS also stood by for the duration of the call. No injuries are reported.
